ARC Amended and Revised Criteria for the teaching of the Usui System of Reiki
History of Review

In 2012 Committee of Management of The Australian Reiki Connection commenced a review of Reiki teaching standards for all levels of Reiki training.

This did not include the spiritual practice or any particular form of Reiki.

It was envisioned that a set of minimum standards/benchmarks would be arrived at, for the teaching of the Usui System of Reiki.

Over the following years ARC members with the Reiki level of Master/Teacher made submissions, provided feedback and voted on the  agreed standards for Reiki training/teaching.

At a Special General Meeting of the Association on the 13th June 2015 the motion that the AMENDED & REVISED ARC criteria for the teaching of Reiki was accepted.

The need for a review was based on a number of factors, including but not limited to:
1. An unfortunate growing trend to reduce the number of class/workshop actual teaching hours for the teaching of Reiki (Levels I & II). In some reported cases this varied from between two hours and more commonly six hours.

2. The inclusion of additional material and symbols (add ons) in classes and these being stated/inferred to as being what Usui taught

3.The inclusion and incorporation of other non-Reiki modalities, and these being stated/inferred as being as part of Usui System of Reiki training / teaching.

4. Symbols being taught in Level One Reiki classes

 5. Some Level One Reiki students being taught how to provide Reiki treatments on a professional fee paying basis, how to record client information etc. (Note: insurance is not available to Level I Reiki Channels)

6. The teaching of Level One and Level Two classes in one week-end and in other instances teaching Level Two class within one week after a Level One class

 7. The number of applications received from students who had taken online Reiki courses (including online attunements) which prevented them gaining membership of ARC and other Reiki Associations.

The aims of the review include but again are not limited to:

  •  Developing a consistent Reiki training / teaching standard in the Usui System of Reiki that all Reiki Teachers and Professional Reiki Associations/organisations could adhere to.

  • That all Students will learn the key basics/fundamentals of the Usui System of Reiki

  • That all Teachers and Students develop a comprehensive understanding of the Usui System of Reiki

  • Clearly define what is and what isn’t Reiki
